Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Martinović held a lecture on "Product quality labels to numerous benefits"
VijestDate:

Agricultural producers in Montenegro should focus on the protection of their products by obtaining quality labels, and the advantage of Montenegro is traditional food products, said Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Martinović at a lecture on "Requirements for food quality and safety while respecting the principles of environmental protection - challenges and opportunities", which was organized yesterday by the NGO Association of Young Ecologists Nikšić.

We are transmitting the press release in its entirety:

According to Martinović, the official quality labels in the European Union (EU) that farmers should strive for are: name of origin, geographical indication, guaranteed traditional specialty and label of organic production.

"Montenegro's advantage is traditional food products. Tradition means connection with the territory ", she pointed out during the lectures that were followed by farmers from the municipality of Nikšić.

People who have chosen to engage in agricultural production, she said, will benefit greatly if they register their products through obtaining labels and certificates.

'' It will benefit from the fact that consumers' awareness of their product will increase. Consumers are increasingly focused on regional and specific food products. Geographical indications and quality schemes increase the diversity of agricultural production and help consumers by giving them information about products ", stated Martinović and called on farmers to direct their efforts towards obtaining quality labels.

Product protection will enable economic, socio-cultural and environmental benefits, but also prevent, she stated, deception based on the use of the product name and some of its characteristics, when there is no basis for that.

"Product protection should contribute to increasing earnings and improving the quality of life and strengthen the entire rural economy." It will encourage a fairer distribution of profits and empower local actors in production. All activities should be aimed at preserving and improving the natural resources that remain for future generations ", are the advantages of this approach to agriculture, she said.

Food safety and quality are regulated by rules that must be followed in the process of food production and consumption.

"HACCP is a system in which safety is achieved through the analysis and control of biological, chemical and physical risks, starting from the production of raw materials, their procurement and handling, to the production, distribution and consumption of the final product," she said. achieving higher levels of food safety.

"Principles of HACCP are risk analysis, identification of key control points, critical limit values, monitoring procedures, corrective measures, verification procedures, record keeping procedures," said Martinovic in the first part of the presentation dedicated to safety and quality food.

The lecture was attended by 15 farmers from the municipality of Nikšić who were selected as the target group of the project "Improvement of local capacities for the needs of agricultural producers", which is implemented by the Association of Young Ecologists Niksic.

The project was financed by the Municipality of Nikšić in a competition for projects of non-governmental organizations in the project area of Agriculture and Rural Development.
