Round table discussion on the topic: "Food Safety Culture in Montenegro - the Path to a Healthy Nation"

Our goal is to, jointly, make a contribution in order to continue the efforts at the national level to advance food safety as part of the public agenda, through the engagement of all actors in the food chain. We believe that this, alongside other activities, will contribute to further improving food safety in our country, preserving the quality of domestic products and raising awareness of the importance of this topic, through the promotion of specific measures to improve the public health of our citizens, most notably by reducing and preventing foodborne illness.

Food safety is an important public health issue and the basis of both good health and sustainable development. It is estimated that, on an annual basis, more than 23 million people in Europe become ill as a result of consuming contaminated food, while more than 4,600 lose their lives due to the consumption of unsafe food.

World Food Safety Day, June 7th, thus attracts public attention, and encourages activities to help prevent, detect and manage food safety risks, in order to promote the availability of safe and nutritious food for all. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) are marking this year's Food Safety Day under the slogan "Safe food now, for a healthy tomorrow", emphasizing that the production and consumption of safe food has both immediate and long-term benefits for all people, our planet and the global economy.
