Introduction: Enterococcus faecium can be found in traditional food products (Foulquié Moreno et al. 2006). The worldwide emergence of multi-drug resistant E. faecium strains represents a major public health threat being the main reason for the genus Enterococcus not having the status generally recognized as safe (GRAS) (Huys et al. 2013). The aim of this study was to demonstrate that E. faecium isolates obtained from traditionally produced Montenegrin cheeses do not pose a risk to human health.
