Panel discussion "Challenges in the Application of Standards in the Field of Food Safety and Quality”

The Director of the Centre of Excellence and Dean of the Faculty of Food Technology, Food Safety, and Ecology at the University of Donja Gorica, Prof. Aleksandra Martinovic, PhD, participated in the panel discussion "Challenges in the Application of Standards in the Field of Food Safety and Quality," organized by the Institute for Standardization of Montenegro (ISME) on February 29, 2024, at the "Podgorica" hotel. This event, part of the IPA 2020 project aimed at increasing the capacity of institutions responsible for harmonizing and implementing the EU legal framework in the fields of competitiveness and innovation, brought together eminent experts from various sectors.

Professor Martinovic shared insights on how the Faculty and the Centre of Excellence contribute to the education of future experts and raise awareness about the importance of applying standards for food safety and quality.

Barbara Bratusa, an EPRD expert from the Republic of Slovenia and a food safety specialist, presented her extensive experience in developing new products, producing ready meals, additives, packaging materials, and standards such as IFS Food, IFS Logistics, IFS Broker, IFS Global Markets Food, ISO 9001, ISO 22716, and HACCP.

The event was moderated by Slavica Jovanovic, B.Sc. in Chemical Technology (DLS Montenegro), with the presence and contributions of leading experts and officials from the public health sector, veterinary and phytosanitary affairs, as well as representatives of the academic community and industry. In addition to Professor Martinović, the panelists included: Mrs. Merisa Cekic, Head of the Directorate in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management; Mr. Vladimir Djakovic, Director of the Food Safety, Veterinary, and Phytosanitary Affairs Administration; Dr. Zorica Djordevic, Hygiene Specialist, Public Health Institute of Montenegro; Mrs. Snezana Vucinic, Specialist DVM, Head of the Department for Testing Animal Origin Food and Animal Feed in the Specialist Veterinary Laboratory; Mrs. Slavica Saric, Management Representative and Deputy Executive Director, B.Sc. in Agroeconomics, Goranovic Meat Industry.

This discussion represents another step towards strengthening cooperation between the academic sector, industry, and regulatory bodies to achieve the highest standards in the field of food quality and safety.
